Chinsurah One of the oldest cultural hubs of West Bengal lies beside the River Ganges. The city of Chinsurah is formed by the merging of two municipalities, Chuchura and Hugli. Discovered by the Portuguese in the late 16th century, the city flourished from its trading port. Factories were erected by the Dutch, however friction arose which led to the Indian independence movement that ended the East India Company rule.
