Saverne

Never was there a better known gateway than Saverne. The downward slope from the Phalsbourg plateau towards the Zorn valley and the Rhine plains is one of the most spectacular sights in Alsace. The panorama is amazing, dazzling the senses. The contrast is great between the bare, flat, open country and the slopes of the Vosges which arise suddenly, covered with dark, thick forests. On either side the powerful massif towers toward the south. Saverne is located in a remarkable location, near the Zorn and the Marne au Rhin Canal which divides the Vosges in two. The eventful history of this strategic city illustrates its enviable geographic position.
