Astorga

Astorga, a magnificent religious city, pre-dates the Kingdom of Leon by 875 years and has more than 2,000 years of history. It was captured by the French, retaken by the Spanish and influenced by the Romans, leaving its rich medieval legacy in today’s historical landmarks. This city surrounded by mountains is protected by The Walls wherein travelers can walk along the walls and see the extent of its once vast kingdom. The Episcopal Palace designed by Spanish architect Antoni Gaudi incorporates nature, religion and architecture to the Modernist building now a host museum shared with the rest of the world. If traveling to Astorga, expect a hospitable welcome and in the spirit of their many year-round fiestas, join the celebrations!
