Montemor-o-Novo

This beautiful Portuguese countryside lures its travelers to explore the ancestral force of Spanish influence, religious landmarks, and 17th century noble manors. A connecting hub between Lisbon and Spain, this town is filled with unexpected enchantment of Baroque altars, whispy frescoes, and Manueline arched doorways. Visit the Convent of St. Joao de Deus, a monastery that holds most of Montemor-o-Novo’s historical archives. Or the Convent of Salutation built and restored between the 16th – 19th centuries where visitors can gaze at beautiful tiles that date back to 1651. The ruins are over hundreds of years old so visitors are advised to roam the castle grounds with caution.
