Sesriem
The settlement that sits at the entrance of Namib-Naukluft National Park is a campsite favorite for those who wish to experience the beauty of the Namib Desert, the sunset over the Elim dunes, and the stars that fill up the desert night sky. Sesriem sits at the southern end of the Naukluft Mountains and only 4 kilometers away is the majestic Sesriem Canyon, naturally carved by the Tsauchab rivier. Early Afrikaans explorers tied six (ses) leather (riem) straps to descend/ascend buckets from the pools of the canyon to fetch water.
