Ksamil

Albania is a country that has long played her cards close to her chest. Closed to foreigners for almost all of the 20th century, tourism here is still in its very early stages, which is good news for all those who want to truly experience Balkan authenticity at its grass roots. Ksamil is what Mediterranean coastlines should look like. Lush vegetation tops craggy cliffs and long ribbons of golden sand. Tiny islands are within easy swimming distance from the shore. Further along the shore, pretty cove beaches provide complete isolation for those who really do not want to be found. While Ksmil’s charms may center on beach days and long-lazy lunches in the shade (be sure to try the mussels – a local specialty), those who want to venture further afield might like to stretch their legs and go to Butrint, about 5 km from Ksamil.
