Sao Vicente

The Island of St. Vicente did not get colonized until the 18th century. The settlement of the island was due to the good conditions of Porto Grande bay for fresh water supply for the ships calling there and it was also a good point for preventing pirate attacks on the archipelago. In terms of development, St. Vicent is nowadays the second island of Cape Verde, with its lunar landscape and some nice beaches; you can find a nice view from the Monte Verde, overlooking Mindelo, Mato Ingles, Monte Cara, Baia des Gatas Topim Cave and the millenary volcanoes of Calhau.
