Songkhla

Songkhla is located on a peninsula between the Gulf of Thailand and the Thala Sap Songkhla – an inland sea. The town bustles with activity with fishing boats arriving or leaving throughout the day, and long tail boats ferrying passengers to nearby islands. This small city is the educational center of South Thailand with a university, research facilities, several technical colleges and a military training camp. There is a small museum not far from the bus station, and a couple of temples worth visiting. Yaw Island, located in Songkhla's inner sea, can be reached by boat taxi from the mainland. Hand woven cotton can be bought on the island at quite reasonable prices. The zoo at Songkhla is visited by tourists every year too.
