Ancud Introducing visitors to the charm of the Chiloe archipelago, Ancud takes travelers back in time. Located on the northern point of the main island, Isla Grande, village fisherman spend their day casting their nets and dropping their lines from small, brightly colored boats that they have used for generations. Dotting the shore are the town’s equally as colorful houses, making Ancud quite a site for the approaching visitor. In Ancud are the ruins of the last Spanish citadel, the San Antonio Fort, which surrendered to Chile in 1826. Not to be missed are the Caulin oyster beds – the short trip out of town is perfect for lunch. |
