Wuhan

Wuhan, which was formed in 1950 when three cities Wuchang, Hankou and Hanyang were combined, is the capital of Hubei Province and one of the most important and largest ports in China. Hankou is the largest city and commercial hub of the area. Hanyang is the smallest and mainly residential city. Wuchang is the provincial capital, administrative and educational center where most travelers passing through stay. Several historic landmarks and sites are in the area. Most notable is the Yangtze River Bridge which can’t be missed traveling into the city by boat. Constructed in 1957, it is marked as one of communist China’s great engineering achievements. East Lake is the largest lake within a city in China and its beautiful gardens on the lake shore attract numerous visitors each year. Xiang Pagoda, made famous by the Tang dynasty poets, is in this area. Guiyuan Temple is one of four large Buddhist meditation temples in Hubei and an important Buddhist temple in China. The Hubei Provincial Museum contains important collections of artifacts in the province.
