Tuticorin Tuticorin (also known as Thoothukudi), an important sea port and fishing center in India, was founded by the Portuguese in 1540, captured by the Dutch in 1658, and finally, ceded to the British in 1825. Tuticorin is home to the Fishing Technological Institute, and is also famous for its pearl oysters. The nearby port at New Tuticorin is one of India's ten major ports. |
