Rostov-on-Don

Rostov-on-Don's role in the economic development of land and water trade established it as a center of mercantile success, as early as its founding in 1749. Verdant trees line the roads, and the Don River glides through town, as read in such Russian literature by Mikhail Sholokov. A latticework of canals connects Rostov to the other Cossack cities before reaching Moscow. Rostov-on-Don is home a cadre of universities, libraries, theatres and museums, making it a modern cultural center with activities for many interests.
