Cantabria

Cantabria nicknamed 'Green Spain' is a small community within Santander, Spain. It borders the Bay of Biscay in the north and the Cantabrian Mountains between a strip of lush green vegetation. The Atlantic Ocean winds trap precipitation making Cantabria abundant in agriculture. Cantabria has been invaded and overruled by the Roman Empire and the Visigoths. Once Cantabria thought they were an independent nation, Medieval Catholic Monarchs imprinted religion onto the town. In the early 19th century the feat on their War for Independence was finally declared.

Cantabria is filled with history, beautiful monuments and spectacular medieval and gothic architecture. However, visitors are lured in to the fine white sand, holiday resorts, and nature reserves. Looking for adventure? Don’t miss the Picos de Europa National Park.
