Carlow County Carlow is a county town surrounded by glorious mountains, scenic countryside and river valleys. It sits southeast of Ireland just 53 miles from Dublin. The town’s name derives from Old Irish language, Ceatharlach which means “four lakes.” Carlow has been settled for thousands of years possibly even during the prehistoric times. Just 1 mile east of Carlow situates the megalithic portal tomb, a National Monument. Early Christians settled around the county in the 7th century and by the early 13th century, William Marshall constructed Carlow Castle to guard the vital river crossing. |
