Cavan Cavan is a county in Ireland in the province of Ulster. In the medieval times, it was Gaelic territory and was part of the kingdom of East Breifne or Brefney O’Reilly. During the 12th century, Cavan was influenced by Anglo-Normans and built a castle. Cavan’s natural landscape consists of drumlin hills and loughs and poorly drained heavy clay soil that contributes as a line of defense against invasion. Cavan was recaptured by the O’Reilly’s. By the 17th century, Cavan became home to English and Scottish families laying the foundation for many towns and villages. |
