Abydos Legend has it that Osiris’s head was buried here in Abydos once it was cut off by his brother Seth and thus the city became the center of the ancient Osiris cult, and subsequently became the preferred place of burial for some of Egypt’s earliest pharaoh’s. Considered one of the most important archaeological sites of Ancient Egypt the sacred city of Abydos was a religious center, and the site of many prominent temples and tombs. Today, visitors interested in ancient Egyptian history and art will be fascinated by the Temple of Seti. The stunning reliefs on the outer walls are significant for being completed during the reign of Ramses II, and are some of the finest quality in all of Egypt. |
