Brig

The Stockalper Palace stands amongst pictureseque hotels and homes as Switzerland’s most significant baroque structure. Simplon Pass winds its way down into town, the same road built by and traveled by Napolean and his armies in the 19th century – the first road of its kind in the Alps. In the summers, take to the latticework of hiking trails through the Simplon and Aletsch Glacier (the longest in Europe) regions before indulging in a leisurely afternoon at the Brig thermal baths or shopping along the Bahnhofstrasse. For a winter adventure, ascend the Belalp ski area above Blatten and Brig: the Hohstock ski tunnel being of chief interest for those seeking deep snow skiing. For cross-country skiing, head closer to Brig near Rosswald or Goms.
