Mdina

Walking through the web of alleys and narrow streets in the ancient, fortified town of Mdina, you will feel the history beneath your feet and all around you. Known both as the “Citta` Notabile” (the noble city) and the Silent City, Mdina’s history spans several thousands of years. Medieval Sicilian and Spanish influence can be felt in the archways and buildings as you wander the narrow back alleys. Attractions include St. Paul’s Cathedral, the foundations of which date to the 12th century and was rebuilt in the 17th century after an earthquake. In the adjoining small museum, don’t miss Albrecht Durer woodcut prints of The Life of the Virgin. Catch a dramatic view from a café atop the ancient city walls before continuing wandering this historically rich town.
