Tracing the town's roots to 8th century, this French village was built with local red sandstone hence given the name Collonges-la-Rouge. The town was once a pilgrim village and a stone quarry. It's withstood the French revolution and in 1942, the town became a French historical monument. This picturesque village has undergone many renovations however visitors can stroll through the stoned streets to Saint-Pierre's church's gate, the gardens and squares of Castel de Vassinhac, or tour through rustic and ethereal medieval homes of the nobles that once lived there.
